Leader: Annette Cook
Join SMAS for a short birding program in the JPPM Visitor’s Center Conference Room, during which attendees will be introduced to the Merlin bird identification app. The program will be followed by a slow, guided bird-walk along the park’s trails.
Meet at the Visitor’s Center by 8:55am, parking is available across the entrance road from the VC. A limited number of loaner binoculars will be available. Attendees are invited to bring a picnic lunch for after the walk concludes. A large cooler will be available to keep food items cool until lunch. Target Species: JPPM’s many micro-habitats offer the chance to see waterfowl, woodpeckers, raptors and various songbirds. Terrain: Easy. Mostly level, paved or gravel. There is a boardwalk with some steps. Wear comfortable shoes; we will stick to trails, but some muck is possible. Pace: Slow, with much pausing to binoculate! We may pause to sit quietly and see what comes to us. Distance: About 1 mile total. Restrooms: Available in Visitor’s Center, Pavilion, and portable units in King’s Reach Field parking lot and along Indian Village Trail.
